Presentation at the 9th Cyber Security in Networking Conference

October 20th - 22th, Abu Dhabi

Our research group participated in this year’s edition of CSNet (Cyber Security in Networking conference) in Abu Dhabi. The conference took place between the 20th and 22nd of October and brought together international cybersecurity researchers with whom we connected.

Hosted at Zayed University, this year’s edition of the conference also focused on generative AI, reflected by interesting presentations on novel applications of LLMs for cybersecurity - from password list creation to spear-phishing detection.

In our presentation “Cross-Study Comparability for IDS: A Call for Clarity”, Maximilian Ludwig highlighted the issues in the current state-of-the-art Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) research that lead to cross-study incomparability. As a solution, he demonstrated our framework BICEP (Benchmarking IDS in a Comparative Evaluation Platform) which is able to overcome these underlying challenges and to analyze characteristic advantages and shortcomings in common open source IDS and datasets. Our contribution helps improve not only the quality of cybersecurity research but also IT-security professionals find the optimal solution for their requirements.
In the future, we plan to extend the framework to be able to benchmark more IDS types, such as Collaborative IDS (CIDS) on which we are also currently working on with our project heiDGAF.
