100 Cutting-Edge Insights, from 100 European Top-Researches, in 1 Day

On September 26th, 2016, the European Health Science Match Conference 2016 took place in Heidelberg, Germany, as part of the European Biotech Week 2016, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Nicolai Schoch, PhD student in the work group EMCL of Prof. Dr. Vincent Heuveline, got awarded a scholarship for free admission to the conference, and took part in this amazingly inspiring experience. 100 international top-scientists from a broad spectrum of life sciences gave insights into their work in 3-minute-presentations. One probably cannot get more access to cutting-edge medical research in one day.

The innovative event aimed at matching science, business and young academics:
Participants and speakers from several institutions, such as the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg University, the Catholic University of Leuven, or Tel Aviv University came to share and spread their knowledge.

During matching breaks, all participants were given the chance to meet the speakers in the Science Club, and to thus get more insight into their work or ask open questions.  Furthermore, thanks to the close contact with leading scientists, universities and research institutions worldwide, ideas and current research works could intensively be discussed and exchanged with experts from different scientific fields of research.
During these matching breaks, Nicolai Schoch was able to present and discuss his current work on cognition-guided, patient-specific numerical simulations for cardiac surgery assistance.

The main topics, covered in four inspiring sessions, were: Understanding Disease, Diagnosis, Tools and Devices, and Medical/clinical Therapy. In total, the different talks covered a broad spectrum of research fields: from molecular biology and chemistry, via image-guided diagnosis and simulation-enhanced therapy, to clinical information processing, big data and artificial intelligence. In summary, one day of fascinating cutting-edge insights in the context of HealthCare Research and Technologies.
